FILE UNDER TONER: 45 RPM

"YOUR CD PLAYER ERROR CORRECTION SOFTWARE IS TRYING TO
READ MY CD PLAYER ERROR CORRECTION SOFTWARE"
This is a recording of my old marantz cd-40 error correction software trying
to make sense of a copy of superelvis’ "what about beauty?" (hr008) previously
modified with a marker pen. Needless to say, this recording has been inscribed
with a marker pen too. just to make sure every copy is different, and probably
every audition too.LEM11S 29:56

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN 45RPM CD in eleven easy steps
(if you are not one of the only 45 fortunate people in the world for whom I
made it myself)
1) Buy a CDR that represents a vinyl record (see photo 4). I used EMTEC but
there are other brands.
2) Write "45 RPM" and "FILE UNDER TONER" with a big permanent marker on the "grooves"
of the CD (see photo 4).

3) Download the tracks hr045_side_a.mp3 and hr045_side_b.mp3
4) Burn an audio CD containing these two tracks.
5) VERY IMPORTANT! Using a much smaller permanent marker, inscribe 5 dots on
the recorded part of the CD (inner part of the recorded side, see photo 5).

Of
course you may experiment and inscribe a different number of dots, but then it
will not be the same.
6) Write "YOUR CD PLAYER ERROR CORRECTION SOFTWARE IS TRYING TO READ MY CD
PLAYER ERROR CORRECTION SOFTWARE" on the outer part of the recorded side of
the CD (see photo 5)
7) Choose a number between 1 and 45 and write it on the "label" of the CD
followed by "/45" (see picture 4)
8) Get a transparent CD box (see photos 1-3).

9) Open it and put inside:
a) a rubber band
b) a piece of paper that says "this is a recording of my old marantz cd-40
error correction software trying to make sense of a copy of superelvis’ "what
about beauty?" (hr008) previously modified with a marker pen. needless to say,
this recording has been inscribed with a marker pen too. just to make sure
every copy is different, and probably every audition too."
c) a piece of paper that says "http://www.hazardrecords.org"
d) a piece of paper that says "File Under Toner 45 rpm File Under Toner"
e) a coffee filter on which you have rubber-stamped "hazard records" on one
side and "N(C)!" on the other
f) A small piece of a 78rpm shellac record (beware: if the piece is too big
the cd box will not close)
g) a small piece of a tranparent flexi disc
h) a small piece of a green flexi disc
i) around 30 cms of cassette tape
j) a phonograph needle
k) some spangles in two different colors
l) a playing card (Spanish kind)
m) a blank crossword puzzle on which you will have rubber stamped "ORIGINAL"
and "DUPLICADO"
n) two fragments of a map of Europe pre-1989, approximately 9 x 7 cm each
o) a fragment of an old Polish bank note (beware, destroying or damaging money
is generally illegal, though I am not really sure about old Polish currency.
Check the laws in your own country before you do).
(see photos 1-3, try to put all these things in the same place and order)
10) Glue a yellow 45rpm adapter on the inner part of the box cover (see photo
3)
11) Write "45 RPM" with the big permanent marker on the inside of the box
cover . You have to write it backwards so it can be read correctly when you
close the box. Write the "5" correctly so it will appear to be backwards when
you close the box (see photo 1).
